The interactive soundscape- project by Randi and Memona

The Interactive Soundscape

We identify two major problems at Arlanda. One: airports in general are described as non- places, as places with no identity, also excluding the identities of the people in it.
Two: the airport is full of visual impression that all competes for you attention.

We want to place a soundscape in the corridor that triggers thoughts and awareness about one self in the public sphere. It will be an invisible installation of various recorded footsteps making a pause from all the visual noise. The sound will be triggered by the movements of people passing. The sound follows, meets, haunts, runs away or walk along aside with the person during the walking distance A to B.

The piece creates awareness of footsteps which are at first hard to identify as your own or somebody else’s, visualizing ones sounds and existense in the public sphere.

  1. Brilliant, Randi and Memona!

I like especially the playful twist you are going to render to the sound itself, so it follows, meets, haunts, runs away, or walks alongside you...

I guess a lonely traveler might want to run back and forth three times in the corridor before heading off to the original destination, and utters, “What a company!”
